Shark Week – Monday

June 27, 2016 by Primary Two

Today we started our week off reading about the great white shark. We learned that he is able to see very well in the dark, he has a great sense of smell ,he can be as big as ½ a school bus and he has three rows of very sharp teeth.

We then created our very own shark bite art. Check out the front door to our class. Yikes!! There are some scary sharks and funny ones too!

VBS

June 6, 2016 by Primary Two

Today was our first day of VBS and it was fun! We met some new friends, sang some new songs and visited areas of the church that we have never seen. Ms. Kari Ann introduced the word of the day a faith. She told us that faith is believing even if you can’t see it (faith). It’s like a muscle, you have to practice it to make it strong.

We focused on the country Uganda which is in Africa. We made a musical instrument called a thumb piano. We read the story, A Good Trade. Which is the story of a boy who trades a flower for a pair of shoes. We then traced patterns on old blue jeans and cut them out. We are helping to make shoes. And during game time we learned and practiced playing a game called mancala.

For snack we tried dried mangos and coconut. Some friends enjoyed the mangos a lot more.

The children can’t wait to see what tomorrow has in store.

Please see our class door for more photos.

Coffee lesson

May 24, 2016 by Primary Two

Today our class had a lesson on grinding coffee beans. I let each child have a go at trying to grind so they could see how tough grinding the beans could be. We also enjoyed the smell of the beans as they were being grounded. Now the children will have the choice if they would like to grind a small bag beans of to take home for their parents to enjoy.

Monday happenings

May 16, 2016 by Primary Two

Today in music class we helped Mr. Jason and his friend Roscoe the turtle put the music bells in scale (solfege-the correct music term Mr. Jason used). He then invited friends to play the bells and create their own music. And we boogied to funk music (The Motete) with Ms. Jason during free dance time.

We also had a small group lesson on the 50’s board. The children sorted number tiles into number families and then we placed them in order from 1 to 50.
