This morning the children learned about John Chapman, otherwise known as Johnny Appleseed. We also took part in an apple tasting experiment. Each child got to taste 3 different types of apples, then chart their favorite on our graph. As you can see below, the Golden Delicious apple was favored by most of the children. This is an easy experiment to try at home and the best time of year to taste a variety of apples.

The word of the day in Soccer Shots is Dedication. Ask your child what that means. The children also enjoyed playing a game that challenged their gross motor control and soccer skills, called Stars and Moon.

Tomorrow is Chapel. This class begins at 10:30. All children who celebrated a birthday in September and will be celebrating a birhtday in October will have a special birthday prayer said for them on Wed. Oct. 4. All parents of these children are invited to attend chapel on Wed. Oct. 4. All birthday children being honored are asked to bring 5 coins to place in the special birthday bank.

Book orders are due tomorrow. You may order on line or send your child’s choices to school along with a check made payable to Scholastic book clubs.

This morning’s lesson is called Number Three Part cards. The children layout control cards that have a number and the number word on them in order from 0-10. Then they match just the number cards. The last set of cards to match are the word cards. This lesson helps children sequence numerals from 0-10 and it helps teach recognition of number words.

This afternoon in music class the children enjoyed playing their rhythm sticks to a new song called, Hey, Hey, what do you say? Ask your child if they remember the song and if they will sing it for you.

Tomorrow is Soccer Shots. This class begins at 10:30.

Book orders are due Wednesday, Sept. 27.

During Montessori work time, the children continued working with their addition skills. The lesson today to help with this is called Addition with Dice. Children roll dice, then add the number of dots showing.

This morning Jump Bunch class was filled with so much excitement. The children really enjoyed practicing their target throwing. They got to throw balls at a target and count how many points they made at the end of class. Ask your child how many points they made, you might be surprised.

Tomorrow is dance class. This class begins at 9:30.

Book orders are going home today. They can be found in your child’s backpack.

Book orders are due Wed. Sept. 27 .
