Did you know that every letter in the alphabet has a name and sound?

On circle we worked with the alphabet flash cards and with our alphabet object matching lesson in our language area. We laid out alphabet cards in order and matched objects to the sound and letter they begin with.

Reminder: Scholastic book orders are due this Friday. Please make out checks to: Scholastic Book Clubs

Today we worked with our continent map. We reviewed what the blue parts of our Earth are called, oceans and that the brown parts are called continents. We located the continent we live on, North America and discovered that there are three countries on our continent. The children enjoyed seeing different pictures of maps that showed the three countries. Do you know the names of the three countries? We learned that Canada is located on the top , the United States is in the middle, and Mexico is at the bottom of our continent.

Welcome Back! We hope everyone had a great weekend.

On circle we said “good-bye” to the month of April and “hello” to the month of May. We talked about all the fun we had in April and all the fun that awaits in May, like Moms and Muffins this Friday, May 6, 2016.

We read the book Germs, Germs, Germs! that helped us to remember what we can do to stop germs from making us sick like washing with soap and water, covering our mouths when coughing or sneezing, and keeping our fingers and toys out of our mouth and nose.

The children had a fun time singing and dancing in music class and were also very excited to meet Mr. Jason’s new friend. Mr. Jason brought his friend Steve to visit. Steve is a great white shark that we discovered only looked scary but is actually very friendly!

Scholastic book orders are going out today. They are due back on Friday.

Today we reviewed some of the facts we learned about the lifecycle of a butterfly. The children enjoyed watching another video of a real caterpillar and butterfly that helped us review:

the name of a newborn caterpillar(larva)

what kind of home it makes (chrysalis)

what it is called inside the chrysalis (pupa)

that a metamorphosis is a change( the pupa changes into a butterfly

The children worked on a lifecycle of a butterfly color sheet that shows the stages of the lifecycle.

Our class continued to review and learn facts about butterflies. We learned that a caterpillar is born a larva. The larva grows into a caterpillar that then turns into a pupa that metamorphosis into a butterfly. We also learned that a moth may look like a butterfly but it is not one. Do you know if a butterfly builds a cocoon or a chrysalis.

The children had a great time in Jumpbunch class playing Koosh ball. They cannot wait to see what adventure awaits in Arts Alive class this afternoon.

Dance class is cancelled for tomorrow. Please look at the large white board for the schedule for the rest of the semester.
