Today, our class learned about the lifecycle of a butterfly. We worked with the lifecycle of a butterfly lesson in the science area and we also watched a video. We learned that a caterpillar that is hatched from an egg is called a larva and it eats and grows until it is ready to make itself a chrysalis. Inside the chrysalis the caterpillar becomes a pupa that starts to go through a metamorphosis. Did you know that metamorphosis means change? When the pupa has completed its metamorphosis a butterfly will emerge from its chrysalis. The children found the fact that a caterpillar eats its eggshell as its first meal after hatching from its egg very funny!

Below is a link to the video our class watched:

Today we used our ears to help us with our lesson!

We worked in the sensorial area and used our sense of hearing to work with the sound cylinder lesson. We listened to a sets of blue and red cylinders and matched the cylinders that sounded the same. We heard sounds that were quiet and sounds that were loud.

The children are still excited about being able to help our Earth! They are trying their best to remember to turn off the lights and water faucets when we are not using them and grabbing one or two napkins to dry our hands.

The children had a fun time in Soccer Shots

Welcome back, we hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather.

We worked in the sensorial area with a new geometric shape lesson. We sorted cubes, prisms, spheres, cones, and pyramids by color. The children are excited to work with our new lesson.

In music class we got a visit from Bob the Clam. He brought a flute that he wanted to play with his eyes. (the children thought he was very silly). Mr. Jason showed Bob and us the correct way to play the flute by playing songs for us to guess the names of. Mr. Jason brought shakers for us to play along as he played his guitar. We had a great time!

Happy Earth Day!

The children were very excited to celebrate our Earth. We read the book “Why Should I Recycle?” and learned that recycling is a good way to help the Earth. We worked in the science area with a new Earth Day lesson. The children classified picture cards of activities such as recycling, dumping trash, cleaning, and turning off lights into helpful and non-helpful to the Earth.

We recycled old book order forms to use as our paper for an Earth Day art project.

Our celebration concluded with a delicious Earth Day cupcake for afternoon snack. A big “thank-you” to Ms. Denise for the yummy treat.

Did you know our Earth is made up of land, air, and water and that a globe is a model of our Earth?

We worked with the sandpaper globe and reviewed some of the facts we have learned about our Earth. We reviewed the correct name for the “land” on our Earth is continents and the “water” is oceans.

We are discussing the Earth and the ways we can help it. We will be reading books that have information on what we can do to the help our Earth. Earth Day is this Friday and the children are excited to discover how they can help our Earth.
